Under the Umbrella
The "Umbrella Revolution" could be considered the most important resistance movement against the Chinese goverment since Tianamen Square in 1989. Students leaders and other citizens decided in September 2014 to stand up to the Asian giant by occupying key sites in Hong Kong. Their outrage was sparked by electoral reform further curtailing the right to nominate and alect the representative of the Hong Kong government and reneging on the promise of universal suffrage for the 2017 elections. This went against the principle of "One Country, Two Systems".
